PS5 first · 32 incoming · updated 17 Sep 2026
Immersive sci-fi, solo-friendly RPGs, dark fantasy, high-style action, and optional PvE co-op. Buy the worlds that matter; wait on the rest.
Scope. Unreleased games, future PS5 versions, and open purchase decisions. Already-released titles stay in Reference as comparison points, not as things to buy again.
Bar width shows how firm the date is — a tick is a confirmed day, a wide bar is a whole year of guesswork. Open a row for its blockers and buy condition. Counts are totals per filter; use your browser's find to search.
Nothing matches that filter.
The same titles, grouped by why they are on the list. Largest group first.
Campaign-length, high-style, no open world required.
Dense near-future cities, neon, noir. Benchmarked on Cyberpunk 2077 and Deus Ex.
Exploration, logistics, building, and long-term projects.
Deliberate combat, buildcrafting, and worlds that reward patience.
Ship crew, companions, romance, squad missions, faction choices.
The taste map every row above is scored against.
Immersive sci-fi, Dune, open-world discovery, solo-friendly RPGs, companion and romance writing, stylish art direction, buildcrafting.
PvE is strongly preferred. Extraction hostility and griefing read as friction, not as a feature.
Optional co-op PvE, solo progression, persistent worlds with a non-PvP route. The Division 2 at 830 hours is the proof, not the theory.
The Witcher 3's combat was a real obstacle, not a minor gripe. Demanding or fiddly melee is the one thing that has blocked an otherwise perfect-fit game, so treat "how does it feel to fight in" as a first-order question on anything dark-fantasy rather than a detail to sort out after buying.
Quality over frame rate. 60fps is not a must-have — the higher-fidelity mode is the default choice, and occasional choppiness is accepted as the price of it. So "has a 60fps performance mode" is not a buying point and "drops frames in places" is not a blocker; what matters is what the quality mode looks like. Ray tracing on a base PS5 is worth more here than a locked 60.
PlayStation is the default count, and it splits by generation: 4986 hours on PS5 and 2295 on PS4. Where an Xbox figure is named it comes from a partial record recovered later — 2409 hours across thirteen rows but twelve titles, since Elite Dangerous appears once per gamertag — which is not the whole of the Xbox years: everything before it, separate runs of the same games elsewhere, and World of Warcraft, which dwarfs the lot, are still outside these numbers. Treat every total as a floor, not a measurement; Hours played draws the whole record.
Reasonable for personally meaningful worlds such as Dune. They do not replace confirming that a new genre's core loop is actually fun.
A look is a buying reason by itself, and the two standing cases are looks rather than fandoms: kurzgesagt's flat-vector universe and Joe Madureira's comic line. It moves the commitment and never the fit — Hours played is the check, with Battle Chasers: Nightwar at 2 hours and Darksiders Genesis at 1, both bought for how they look and barely played. The limit is an objection: Fragmentary Order and Off The Grid are in range on art and sit at 2 anyway, because a look does not answer a loop the profile rules out.
"No PS5 version" is not automatically the end. GeForce Now works today; the cost is not streaming quality but the controls, which never felt right after Xbox. A Steam Machine is on the waitlist — Valve shipped from 30 Jun 2026 and is working a randomised queue through the rest of the year, so the date is genuinely unknown. If one arrives it answers both halves at once: the Steam library runs natively, and Steam Input is the proper fix for the controller problem rather than a workaround. Until then treat PC-only as reachable but unresolved.
What this list actually pulled the trigger on, newest first. The countdown and the timeline bar are gone because both are settled; what is left is how it was bought and whether the fit held up.
The playtime record, drawn to one scale. This is what was played, which is a wider set than Reference below: Reference is the subset that earns a comparison note.
across 43 titles · 24 of them above 50 hours, which is 99% of the time
The cut is 50 hours. 19 more titles hold 108 hours between them — Mass Effect: Andromeda 31, Battlefield 6 10, Star Wars Outlaws 10, Arc Raiders 9, down to 5 titles at one hour each. Drawing them would add 19 invisible bars for 1% of the time.
Every total is a floor. The Xbox file is a partial record recovered later, and everything before it sits outside these numbers: the Mass Effect and Bad Company years, Deus Ex, the Xbox runs of Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and Borderlands, and World of Warcraft, which pre-dates the console era and dwarfs the lot. A hatched tail marks a row with time on a platform no file covers; it is a fixed width and claims no value.

Owned and played. Not purchase decisions — these are the comparison points that explain the scores.
| Game | Role in comparisons | Explains |
|---|---|---|
| Mass Effect2 & 3 | The favourite, on Xbox, for years. The lane is named after these. The Legendary Collection is owned and barely touched — five hours on PS4 — which is not disinterest: a replay of a known quantity loses to a new thing, and Exodus and Osiris Reborn are the new things. | Exodus · The Expanse: Osiris Reborn |
| Deus Ex series | Mankind Divided replayed several times; second only to Mass Effect across the Xbox years. Augmented near-future noir with dense hub cities and route-choice — the other half of the cyberpunk benchmark, and the reason that lane runs deeper than one game. | No Law |
| World of Warcraft | Pre-console era, and it dwarfs everything below it. The long-haul evidence: a persistent world with progression and other people in it can hold attention for years, not weekends. Cinder City is the only thing on the list built to that shape. | Cinder City |
| Tom Clancy's The Division 2 | 830+ hours on PS5, second only to Diablo III. The clearest statement of preference about shooters in this document: a third-person cover shooter that is loot-driven, build-driven, co-op PvE, solo-viable, and endlessly replayable, with the PvP walled off in a zone you can decline. Shooting was never the problem. | Cinder City · Fragmentary Order · Off The Grid · The Ascent 2 · The Division 2: Survivors |
| Battlefield 6 | Owned, and barely played. Set against 830 hours in The Division 2, it isolates the variable precisely: the objection is not shooters, it is military-multiplayer shooters with no loot loop and no build to grow. Modern Warfare 4 is blocked on this experiment. | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 |
| Battlefield: Bad Company1 & 2 | Xbox era, and the counterweight to Battlefield 6: the objection was never the Battlefield name. Bad Company had a written campaign — the squad's banter carried it as much as the shooting did, which is the companion-writing appetite turning up in a shooter — and a destructible open sandbox where its contemporaries handed you a corridor. Rare enough that a Bad Company 3 would be bought sight unseen, no trailer needed. It also sets the bar Modern Warfare 4's campaign is judged against: scripted set pieces through fixed levels are the half of the genre Bad Company was the answer to. | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 |
| Arc Raiders | Reference for why hostile, PvP-first extraction dynamics are frustrating rather than compelling. | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 · Fragmentary Order · Off The Grid · The Division 2: Survivors |
| Borderlands series | 59 hours into Borderlands 4 so far, and a great deal more in Borderlands 3 — 234 hours on PS4, and more again on Xbox. Co-op looter-shooter with builds and gear — the same shape as The Division 2, and the second independent vote for loot-and-build shooting over military multiplayer. | — |
| Ghost ReconWildlands & Breakpoint | 414 hours on PS5 — Breakpoint 362, Wildlands 52 — with more on Xbox besides. Open-world tactical shooters with co-op PvE and a solo route — the third independent vote, after The Division 2 and Borderlands, for the same thing: open world, loot and kit, optional squad, no forced PvP. Cinder City is the only unreleased game on this list built to that shape. | Cinder City |
| Destiny 2 | Cooperative PvE shooting, buildcrafting, and an evolving world that worked — the fourth independent vote, after The Division 2, Borderlands and Ghost Recon, for the same shape. | Horizon Hunters Gathering |
| Anthem | 266 hours, which is the surprise in the audit: more time than Destiny 2 or Battlefield 6, in a game usually remembered as a failure. It is the fifth independent vote for co-op PvE with loot and builds, after The Division 2, Borderlands, Ghost Recon and Destiny — and the only one that also carries the other lesson. BioWare abandoned it, and the 266 hours stopped because the game stopped, not because the interest did. That is the live-service risk stated as a number rather than a worry, and it is why Cinder City's monetization and longevity are worth blocking on. | Cinder City · Horizon Hunters Gathering |
| Diablo IV | 538 hours. Dependable solo ARPG comfort game — buildcrafting, fast action, gear progression, flexible session length. | No Rest for the Wicked |
| Diablo III | 1047 hours on PS5 — the most-played game on the console, and the largest number on this page. With Diablo IV that is over 1500 hours in one ARPG lineage, which is why dark fantasy and buildcrafting sit at the top of the profile rather than merely on it. | — |
| No Rest for the Wicked(Steam) | Owned reference for deliberate, precision-first ARPG combat. The PS5 version is a separate platform decision. | No Rest for the Wicked |
| The Witcher 3 | 124 hours on Xbox, and owned on PS5 at zero. Matters more than that figure suggests: Rebel Wolves are the ex-Witcher 3 leads and The Blood of Dawnwalker is the direct descendant, which is a large part of why that row is a 5 rather than a 4. | The Blood of Dawnwalker · The Witcher 3 — Remastered · The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past |
| Assassin's CreedOrigins, Odyssey & Valhalla | 742 hours on PS4 across the three — Odyssey 441, Origins 160, Valhalla 141 — with more on Xbox besides. Large open-world action RPGs run to completion — evidence that scale and a long checklist are not by themselves a deterrent, which is the main thing Grand Theft Auto VI and Fable are being judged on. | Grand Theft Auto VI · Fable |
| Cyberpunk 2077 | 563 hours on PS5 alone, plus 239 more on Xbox and a separate run on GeForce Now. The benchmark for immersive, atmospheric, narrative-driven future-city RPGs, and the reason the cyberpunk lane exists at all. | No Law |
| Satisfactory | 195 hours. Benchmark for systems, logistics, optimization, and long-term project play. | Falling Frontier · Star Birds |
| Elite Dangerous | 173 hours on Xbox across two gamertags, 404 more on PS4 before Frontier dropped console support, and owned on Steam since. Two things it establishes. One, a tolerance for genuinely long-horizon play — the ship is still parked partway from the Bubble to Colonia, a trip measured in weeks, and the intent to finish it has not expired. Two, GeForce Now is a proven route to a PC-only game here, though the controls never matched what the Xbox setup felt like, which is the actual cost of that route rather than the streaming. | Falling Frontier · C-Beams · Fragmentary Order |
| No Man's Sky | 679 hours, and the only title in the record played substantially on all three platforms: 235 on PS5, 146 on PS4 before it, and 298 on Xbox. Reference for open-ended exploration, survival, and building with a non-hostile multiplayer route. The most direct read available on what Light No Fire is likely to be, since it is the same studio and the same shape of loop. | Light No Fire |
| Baldur's Gate 3 | 694 hours, third only to Diablo III and The Division 2. Benchmark for party-RPG depth, builds, relationship writing, and player agency. | Divinity · Starfinder: Afterlight |
| Horizon Zero Dawn | 135 hours on PS4. The interesting part is what came after: the PS5 re-release and Forbidden West are both owned and both sit at zero hours. The same pattern as the Mass Effect Legendary Collection — a known quantity, however well liked, loses to a new thing. Worth remembering before buying a remaster of something already finished. | Horizon Hunters Gathering |
| Marathon | Reference for Bungie shooter feel and art direction. PvP / extraction pressure is the open fit concern. | — |
| Crimson Desert | Reference for open-world fantasy action-RPG design. | — |
| Forza Horizon 5 | 318 hours on Xbox. The PS5 port was deliberately skipped — not lost interest, but holding out for Forza Horizon 6 rather than paying twice for the same map. That makes the Forza Horizon 6 row a continuation rather than a first look. | Forza Horizon 6 |
| Gran Turismo7 & Sport | 435 hours across two generations — 278 in Gran Turismo 7 on PS5, 157 in Sport on PS4 before it. Not 435 hours of the same thing: Sport was online-and-esports-first with a thin single-player campaign, so this is two distinct games sustaining the interest rather than one long appetite, which is the stronger claim of the two. Driving is not a palate cleanser at that number, it is a lane. The real bar Forza Horizon 6 has to clear. | Forza Horizon 6 |
| The Crew Motorfest | 83 hours. Reference for low-pressure open-world driving as a break between long RPGs. Softer evidence than Gran Turismo 7 at 278, and a different kind of driving. | Forza Horizon 6 |
